Giacomo Leopardi is almost a contemporary of Ugo Foscolo, the later was only ten years older.Giacomo Leopardi was born in 1798 in Recanati (about 30 km from Ancona) and died in 1837 in Naples. Unlike most intellectuals of his time, like Foscolo for instance, he was not interested in politics and did not participate in any way in the struggle of Italy for his independance.
