13.6.12 exercise 12: Substituting a concessive clause by a gerund the conjunction pur is to be used

We have already said the gerundio doesn't reveal the temporal or logical relationship between the action / event described by the gerundio and the action / event described by the finite verb because normally there is no conjunction which reveals this relationship. To that rule there is only one exception, the concessive clauses. A concessive clause is a clause where the action / event of the gerund contradicts the action / event of the finite verb, but doesn't prevent its realization (Although he had no driving licence he bought a car).

If the gerundio replaces a concessive clause the conjunction pur is to be used.

Translate these sentences with a construction of the type pur + gerundio.

Although he is ill he went to work.
Even if he knew it, he wouldn' t say it to us.
Although he knew it, he didn' t say it to us.
Even if he wanted, he couldn' t.
Althought he had studied five years, he doesn' t find any work.
Although he understood everything he feigned to understand nothing.
