Ideas can be referenced in English with which or what.

He didn' t tell me the whole story, which complicated everything.


In Italian the relative adverbs "quello che", "cosa a cui / cosa che", "ciò che" are used to refer to an idea  
Non mi ha detto tutto, ció che complicava la situazione.
He didn't tell me everything, which complicated the situation.
Mi ha detto che non aveva tempo, cosa a cui io non credevo.
He told me that he didn't have enough time, which I didn't believe.
