L'ingegnere calò fino a lui una bottiglia di whisky già sturata e una cintola di pelle.
“Bevete e legatevi alla guide-rope” disse.
'“Grazie, Mister Kelly” riprese l’irlandese.
Si assicurò con la cintola per non cadere nel caso che lo cogliesse un capogiro per il forte liquore.
“Mi pare che le forze ritornino” disse dopo alcuni istanti. “Cercherò di raggiungervi, Mister Kelly.”
“Volete che apra le valvole e che ci abbassiamo?”

The engineer let down an already uncorked bottle of whiskey and a leather belt."
"Drink and tie yourself to the guide rope," he said.
"Thank you Mister Kelly," replied the Irishman.
